Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Advises borrowers on financial status and discuss financing objectives and goals 
  • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet credit union and governmental standards
  • Evaluates acceptability of loan to corporations that buy real estate loans on secondary mortgage markets 
  • Work with Mortgage Department staff to ensure file is submitted to underwriting in a timely manner
  • Stays in contact with and keeps the borrower informed from loan application through funding, requesting additional information as needed
  • Develops and maintains relationships with companies and individuals within the real estate community promoting the credit union
  • Cross-sells other credit union services
  • Keeps informed of current trends in mortgage lending and market factors affecting mortgage lending.  Ensure all compliance requirements, including credit union policies and procedures, are met
  • Produce assigned loan volume (dollars and/or numbers)
  • Maintain a professional work environment and business like appearance
  • Assist others within and outside the department as needed
  • In a timely manner, respond to borrower inquiries received through phone, branch, or online applications
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Required: High School dipolma or equivalent and 1-3 years of experience
  • Preferred: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school and 2-5 years of origination experience
  • Active NMLS number is required

  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required in addition to normal courtesy and tact.  Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.  Work may involve motivating or influencing others.  Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to sell mortgage loans to members by explaining and communicating loan products and services of the credit union
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Good time management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as real estate purchase contracts, loan program guidelines, tax returns, income documentation, credit reports and preliminary title reports.

Computer Skills:       

  • Basic word processing and computer skills required
  • Knowledge of Calyx Software is helpful
